Derbes Posthumously Honored by RCA
In October, Max J. Derbes, III, CRE, SIOR, CCIM, was posthumously awarded the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award by The REALTORS® Commercial Alliance (RCA) New Orleans Metro Association of REALTORS®. Derbes, who passed away in February 2008, built a distinguished career in real estate in New Orleans, and today his firm is the only company in the metropolitan area to specialize in the selling and leasing of industrial real estate.

MacCrate Addresses Wisconsin Appraisal Institute
Jim MacCrate, CRE, MAI, SRA, MacCrate Associates, Oyster Bay, New York, addressed the Wisconsin Chapter of the Appraisal Institute in August about the valuation of distressed commercial real estate properties, and real estate market cycles that become distressed when the economy falters, financing is costly or not available and/or overbuilding occurs. The Institute invited the FDIC to attend the seminar in Milwaukee. Patterson Contributes to Award-Winning Strategy
Jeff Patterson, CRE, director of corporate solutions with the Minneapolis/Saint Paul office of Colliers Turley Martin Tucker, collaborated in providing in-depth market analysis for the City of Saint Paul’s Central Corridor Development Strategy, which recently won two planning awards: one from the Minnesota Chapter of the American Planning Association, and another from the Canadian Institute of Planners. The strategy creates a vision for how the proposed Central Corridor Light Rail Transit project, a proposed 11-mile route connecting the downtowns of Saint Paul and Minneapolis, would likely impact residential, commercial and industrial real estate development along the line through the year 2030. - Jefferson Patterson, CRE
 
Kennedy Advises Patheon Pharmaceuticals
Loren Kennedy, Principal of Kennedy Advisors, LLC identified approximately $1,000,000 in North Carolina state taxes that Patheon Pharmaceuticals could qualify for by moving to the Research Triangle Park from Toronto. That site selection and incentive intermediary service brought 100 high paying headquarters and lab jobs to RTP in a competition among three states. - Loren Kennedy, CRE
 
North/South Carolina Chapter Hosts Creative Thinkers Awards
On September 25, 2008, the Carolinas Chapter of the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) hosted their first Creative Thinkers Awards in Charlotte, NC. Five companies were recognized for their innovative real estate projects. (read more)
 
MaRous to Address Eminent Domain Conference
Michael S. MaRous, CRE, MAI, of MaRous & Company, Park Ridge, Illinois, will speak at the second annual Eminent Domain conference of the Eminent Domain Institute of CLE International (continuing legal education) in Chicago on October 23. MaRous will present in two sessions: “What Should Your Appraiser Bring to the Table?
